The Veyron's quad-turbocharged W16 engine
The Veyron features an 8.0 litre W16 engine with sixteen cylinders in four banks of four, equivalent to two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a W configuration. Each cylinder has four valves for a total of sixty four, but the narrow staggered V8 configuration allows two overhead camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only four camshafts are needed. The engine is fed by four turbochargers and displaces 7,993 cubic centimetres 487.8 cu in with a square 86 by 86 mm 3.4 by 3.4 in bore and stroke.

The Veyron can be driven in either semi- or fully-automatic mode. A replacement transmission for the Veyron costs just over $120,000. It also has permanent four wheel drive using the Haldex Traction system. future cars bmw top pics

Some time later at Frankfurt Auto Show, there are times when we could gather the views of the future BMW cars. BMW is very optimistic about his vision for the future. There are cars, energy production and would be run on multiple fuels. BMW engineers are working overtime to get good designs BMW Vision EfficientDynamics. The future new cars and have more speed and different materials that have characteristics that are more aerodynamically more efficient. There are many conceptual models with BMW. It would take some time to see the production models, because the market just before they would investigate a launch vehicle. BMW is now very optimistic to achieve the sales target for this year. German car manufacturer would be able to surprise the market again. Watch for exciting news for BMagna, collaborating with the German car giant on future electric car technology, unveiled the the MILA EV at last week’s Geneva Motor Show. The concept is a lightweight three-door hatchback featuring a detachable power module that includes batteries and electric drive motors. The MILA also boasts integrated solar cells in the glass roof to provide supplemental energy generationsee another picture of the MILA EV after the jump
Since the batteries and electric motor are likely to cost at least as much as, or even more than, the car carrying it, Magna are considering a business model where the MILA’s EV module could become the item that car buyers own, rather than the bodywork.Similar electric car projects are also sizing up options for customers to lease, rather than own, expensive battery packs. Part of the Magna EV strategy is that other manufacturers will buy its electric platform as an off-the-shelf base for their own vehicles. When the BMW X3 debuted back in early 2004, it seemed to be an anachronism: an upscale, premium-branded, premium-priced, small sport-utility. After all, the Land Rover Freelander had landed like a thud in our market and was on its way to hiatus status. It turns out that BMW was ahead of the curve, though, because for 2007 the X3 has plenty of competition, including the Freelander's successor, the LR2, plus the all-new Acura RDX. Time for a mid-cycle face-lift, then, for BMW's small SAV, or sports activity vehicle. The freshened 2007 model made its public debut at the Paris salon.
You'll have to look closely at the X3 to detect the physical differences between the 2006 and 2007 models. There are no sheetmetal changes, but last year's black front and rear bumpers are now body-colored, and the twin-kidney grille now has vertical strakes in it. BMW's "corona light rings," known in the parlance as "angel eyes," make their first appearance here, if you opt for the xenon adaptive headlights. Chrome exhaust tips are new at the rear.
BMW has attempted to address complaints about the shoddiness of the original X3's interior with a new dashboard material, additional upholstery in the door panels, and the addition of wood trim to the dash. There's also a new, three-spoke steering wheel, and the optional Cold Weather Package includes heated rear seats in addition to the fronts.
Under the hood, the U.S.-spec X3 adopts the aluminum and magnesium 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that debuted in the 3-series sedan. With variable valve timing, which BMW calls Valvetronic, it produces 260 hp at 6600 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm, increases of 35 hp and 11 lb-ft of torque, respectively. A six-speed manual remains standard, and a new six-speed automatic is a no-cost option, replacing the previous five-speed automatic. With the manual, BMW says the X3 will hit 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, an improvement of 0.7 second over the previous X3 3.0i.
We've already driven the new X3, and although more power and more gear ratios are all well and good, what the X3 really needed was a more comfortable ride, and it didn't receive that in this face-lift. In making the X3 handle like a BMW, BMW's engineers sacrificed everyday livability. This vehicle continues to err on the side of spoMay 28th, 2008 Posted in Worldwide News No Comments
BMW has some big plans. It is said that the BMW M1 concept, recently presented at D’Eleganza Villa D’Estebmw-m1-concept-91.jpg will be soon produced in series.
“We have the right engine and infrastructure for a car like this”, said Herbert Diess. From the interview which was taken from the BMW executive department, we will find out a program of the production and why this car won’t be called M1.
The German producer wants to modify a little this M1 concept, in order to defeat Audi R8 which is a real commercial success. In what measure he can do that, we might find out sooner than we thought.

The next generation of BMW 6 Series will be available only after about 4 years. Until then, we are glad to present you an artistic interpretation of itThe first iteration of the Acura MDX–an SUV equally utilitarian and reliablecompeted with the Mercedes-Benz ML and the Lexus RX300, but the newest generation of the MDX aims straight at the BMW X5 and the Porsche Cayenne. Cargo capacity and off-road capability are no longer the key metrics when contesting market share with those lithe Germans. To instill the same level of driving excitement in the MDX as is found in its new competitors, Acura’s engineers headed to Germany’s Nurburgring, which is prized for its ability to expose chinks in a car’s driving dynamics.
The new MDX’s exterior styling underwent a similarly rigorous workout. According to Frank Paluch, the chief engineer of both the original and second-generation MDX models, the goal was to provide a “stealth family package,” which the design team accomplished by lowering the visual center of the vehicle, what they call the C-line, and angling the D-pillar sharply forward to camouflage the third-row seating. Paluch adds, “The vehicle looks smaller, but it’s wider, longer, and lower.” Until we spend time behind the wheel, we cannot say if the MDX can hang with the fast crowdbut at least it’s wearing all the right clothes. Acura is being coy about powertrain performance, but Paluch says they have aimed for best-in-class V-6 performance. When asked if that translates to 300 hp, he remarks, “that’s a difficult goal.”
Although the vehicle is only a concept and in fact has no interior or powertrain, we expect that Acura will retain 99 percent of its exterior styling for the production model, which goes on sale this falfuture cars bmw

Murcielago pics1

The Lamborghini Murciélago is a high-performance two-door, two-seat sports car that was produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini between 2001 and 2010. Often referred to as a supercar, it was the flagship of the automaker's lineup. The Murciélago was introduced as a coupé in 2001 for the 2002 model year, succeeding the famed Diablo supercar in Lamborghini's lineup. The car was the automaker's first new design in eleven years, as well as the first under the ownership of German automaker VW. It was styled by Peruvian-born Belgian Luc Donckerwolke, Lamborghini's head of design from 1998 to 2005.A roadster version of the car was introduced in 2004, followed by the updated LP 640 coupé and roadster and LP 650-4 Roadster. The final variation to wear the Murciélago nameplate was the LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, powered by the largest and final evolution of the historic Lamborghini V12 engine. Production of the Murciélago ended on 11 May 2010, with a total run of 4,099 cars. A successor, powered by a new V12 engine, is expected in 2011.The Murciélago is a four-wheel drive, mid-engined sports car. Its coupé body is especially low-slung, with its roof rising to just under four feet above the ground. The supercar features scissor doors, which contribute to its exotic image. First-generation Murciélagos, produced between 2001 and 2006, were powered by a 6.2-litre V12 which traces its roots back to the company's beginnings in the 1960s. The rear differential is integrated into the engine unit, and the four-wheel drive features a central viscous coupler. Power was sent to the wheels through a six-speed manual. The Murciélago possesses an independent double-wishbone suspension design, and features a combination of carbon-fiber and steel bodywork. The rear spoiler and the air scoops integrated into the car's shoulders are electromechanically activated, and fold out from the body at high speeds to aid aerodynamic performance and provide additional engine cooling, respectively.
In a continuation of Lamborghini's tradition of giving its cars names from the world of bullfighting, the Murciélago was named for a fighting bull that survived 28 sword strokes in an 1879 fight against Rafael "El Lagartijo" Molina Sanchez, at the Coso de los califas bullring in Córdoba, Spain. Murciélago fought with such passion and spirit that the matador chose to spare its life, a rare honor. The bull, which came from Joaquin del Val di Navarra's farm, was later presented as a gift to Don Antonio Miura, a noted local breeder; thus began the famed Miura line of fighting bulls, which provided the name for one of Lamborghini's first great cars.Murciélago is the Spanish name for the bat. The word is pronounced with a voiceless dental fricativeas in English thing in the Castilian Spanish spoken in most of Spain. However, the Italian automaker often uses the Southern Spain and Latin American Spanish pronunciation, , with an sound.

Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.,[Notes 1] commonly referred to as Lamborghini (pronounced [ ( listen)), is an Italian automaker based in the small township of Sant'Agata Bolognese. The company was founded by manufacturing magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963, with the objective of producing a refined grand touring car to compete with established offerings from marques like Ferrari. The company's first models were released in the mid-1960s, and were noted for their refinement, power, and comfort. Lamborghini gained wide acclaim in 1966 for the Miura sports coupé, which established mid-engine design as the standard layout for high-performance cars of the era. After a decade of rapid growth, hard times befell the company in the mid-1970s, as sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 world financial downturn and oil crisis. After going through bankruptcy and three changes in ownership, Lamborghini came under the corporate umbrella of the Chrysler Corporation in 1987. The American company failed to return the automaker to profitability and sold it to Indonesian interests in 1994. Lamborghini's lack of success continued through the 1990s, until the company was sold in 1998 to AUDI AG (Audi), a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, a German automotive concern. Audi's ownership marked the beginning of a period of stability and increased productivity for Lamborghini, with sales increasing nearly tenfold over the course of the 2000s, peaking in record sales in 2007 and 2008. The world financial crisis in the late 2000s saw Lamborghini's sales drop by nearly half by 2009, leading CEO Stephen Winkelmann to predict continued poor sales for supercar makers.
Assembly of Lamborghini cars continues to take place at the automaker's ancestral home in Sant'Agata Bolognese, where engine and automobile production lines run side-by-side at the company's single factory. Each year, the facility produces fewer than 3,000 examples of the two models offered for sale, the V10-powered Gallardo coupé and roadster. The flagship V12-powered Murciélago coupé and roadster were discontinued at the end of 2010, with a successor expected in 2011.The Lamborghini 350GTV was designed and built in only four months, in time for an October unveiling at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. Due to the ongoing disagreement with engine designer Giotto Bizzarrini, a working powerplant was not available for the prototype car in time for the show. The car went on display in Turin without an engine under its hood; according to lore, Ferruccio Lamborghini had the engine bay filled with bricks so that the car would sit at an appropriate height above the ground, and made sure that the bonnet stayed closed to hide the missing engine. motoring press gave the 350GTV a warm response.
The Automobili Lamborghini Società per Azioni was officially incorporated on October 30, 1963.[5] Ferruccio Lamborghini purchased a property at Via Modena, 12, in the township of Sant'Agata Bolognese, less than 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Cento. A sign at the entranced declared "Qui Stabilimento Lamborghini Automobile" (English: Lamborghini car factory here), boasting 46,000 square metres (500,000 sq ft) of space. Sant'Agata was chosen as the location for the factory due to a favorable financial agreement with the city's communist leadership, which would not tax the plant's profits for its first ten years of trading, along with receiving an interest rate of 19% on those profits when they were deposited in the bank. As part of the agreement, the workers would have to be unionized. Sant'Agata was deep in the cradle of Italy's automobile industry, meaning that Lamborghini's operation would have easy access to machine shops, coachbuilders, and workers with experience in the automotive industry.
The 350GTV was reworked into the production 350GT; the grand tourer sold a total of 120 copiesDespite the favorable press reviews of the 350GTV, Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to rework the car for production. The production model, which would be called the 350GT, was restyled by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, and a new chassis was constructed in-house. Bizzarrini's V12 engine would be detuned for mass production, developing only 280 hp rather than the designer's intended 360 bhp.[18] The completed design debuted at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show, once again garnering positive reviews from the press. Production began shortly afterwards, and by the end of the year, cars had been built for 13 customers; Lamborghini sold each car at a loss in order to keep prices competitive with Ferrari's. The 350GT remained in production for a further two years, with a total of 120 cars sold.
